Even if we got awesome at basketball, we still won't come close to the environment that great programs like Duke get every night. We would get it for the big games but not most games.
I know we used to have great support for bball, but our football team was not the same as it is now, is it bc our football gameday experience is so great and basketball can't live up to it?

Somewhat.

I gotta say though, basketball brings out the geeks and weirdos. Anybody else see the two kids one in bam a gear other fatty wrapped up in
LSU gear like he was sitting in the snow?

What would you rather great success in football and good every 4 or 5 years in basketball. Or vice versa.

Definitely football, I was just saying I know how passionate LSU fans are, but basketball games just don't show that

Does it have to be either/or? A school like LSU should be able to sustain success in both sports. Of course, sports fans in the Deep South have generally cared less about basketball than football over the years, and that contributes to the lack of sustained success in basketball at LSU or most other SEC schools. But, theoretically, it should be possible for both football and basketball to be successful.

After all, our passion for football doesn't seem to have hurt the baseball team any. And, conversely, the baseball team's success hasn't hurt interest in football. Remember, baseball wasn't always so popular. It took sustained success over a decade or more for LSU fans to develop a real passion for the sport, and that passion has helped the program to remain a national power. One would think that the same thing should be possible in basketball.

If LSU basketball ever gets consistently good then the fan support could easily be on the level of baseball... Nothing will touch football though

It IS possible in basketball with the right coach and staff. TJ and his weak staff are just not getting it done.

i would say that UCONN 2006 when College Gameday was in BR was an atmosphere/environment equivalent to Duke basketball

It was epic. I brought out an old mattress from my apartment and slept on it out on the pmac ramp. Great time.

Truth. The entire PMAC ramp was tent city the night before the game.

Yea that was awesome I actually had tickets at the very last row of the PMAC
Imagine of that's how it was everygame, or at least more than once every 7 years

When LSU basketball is rolling...it's a real treat to watch. As an elder statesman on this board(41)... I grew up in BR and vividly remember what the basketball program was like from '78-93. The '00 team and the final four team in '06 brought back some of those memories. The problem is that there's NO consistency.

If TJ or the next coach could bring a consistent winning product to the floor for 3-4 straight years, you'd get the fans back. Basketball really allows the student section to become a factor in the games. Just won't happen at LSU til they win consistently. It's apathetic at best right now.

We used to have the Deaf Dome & it was a pretty awesome place. Of course this was when we went to the Dance like 14 years in a row & had Kentucky on the ropes.
