Okay, IIRC, Sammy Jenkins was full of shite and really was a con artist trying to get some money. Lenny got the same memory condition he did after some punks broke into his house and beat him up. His wife got frustrated with him and tested him by having him give her insulin over and over and Lenny killed his wife. But Lenny screwed it up in his own head that the punks killed his wife and Sammy Jenkins was the one who gave his wife too much insulin.
So there was an actual Sammy Jenkins, but Lenny did kill his wife.
