A couple questions for all the LSU fans, does LSU normally offer early someone who is a possible grade risk? How often does LSU have someone not qualify academically and has this changed at all since the SEC put that cap of 25 players signed per year?

Les Miles has taken more caution on academics risks than he did when he first came on board. This caused Darrington Sentimore and Eddie Lacy to leave the state because they were slow played due to academics. 2012 TE John Thomas isn't allowed to sign his LOI until he gets academically cleared, otherwise LSU would be at 23 signees instead of 22. In previous years, he would've been told to go ahead and sign and then they will see what happens. This 25 player cap sucks for the programs that follow it. I don't know how Bama is able to circumvent this so easily.

I noticed Patterson has done a good job in getting LA guys interested in TCU whenever LSU doesn't offer. Solid recruiting tactics but detrimental to MSU and Arkansas.

Thanks for the info. I think LSU is playing it right. My guess is they feel Lawson will have no trouble qualifying if they offered then. As for Bama, I wouldn't be surprised if they get to those numbers because they are running people out of the program. In Big12 country, UT and OU have a reputation for that. UT had 14 people leave their program last year alone.

TCU has a couple of coaches that have ties to Louisiana as either they grew up there, coached there or played in the state. Plus, GP's staff has had very little turnover over the last 10 years so they have had time to develop some relationships with the LA high school coaches. I am sure that has helped get their name out. It probably also doesn't hurt that TCU has been to a couple of BCS games recently and is going to the Big12.

It should be interesting this year to see who TCU goes after and which ones LSU may also end up offering. I had a sneaking suspicion that LSU may have offered Kavahra Holmes last year partly after TCU got excited about him. It might just have been a coincidence but LSU ended up offering I think a week after his visit to TCU.

Here, is an article that points out what Alabama is about and what they are willing to do on the recruiting trail. Schools like LSU and others just need to create a scrapbooking pointing out how Alabama treats recruits and start educating the high school coaches and recruits. Unfortunately, too many recruits will still think it won't happen to them.
