e said 12 acres so a food plot might not be a good idea as the surrounding hunters can just hunt the line to catch the deer coming in and get all the benefit of the plot without the work.
Oh, I read the other guys post about 100 acres.
Yeah, I'd ax the food plot idea and just find where the deer are passing through. Get a ladder stand and put on the trail. Clear out just enough for you to get a shot off.
I'd still consider putting out corn or rice bran so the deer will keep passing through. You have to do it on a consistent basis though.
Stay off of it with ATVs if possible.
If your neighbors have food plots close to the property line, try and hunt close to the edges.

Thanks guys. Some great info here for me!
This is pretty much what I did this past year. The area around me is be hunted but there are no plots. I saw a lot of deer, but they were all small.. Trying to figure a way to help them grow, If possible...

That doesnt mean no big deer around, big ones dont move around much during the day. Put out some cameras to see what you have passing through

I agree. You usually see young ones and such during the day. The big ones didn't get big by being dumb! Especially if you have hunting pressure surrounding you.

quote:I wouldn't compare a basically unmanaged deer herd to what you're used to seeing on TV. Alot of the deer those guys pass up are let go because of extra trophy fees and not size or age. Like was already suggested I'd get a camera and see what's actually on your property and make my choices from there. It's hard to kill a trophy if your neighbors are shooting everything that walks.
