Second, if regarding just CFB experience, it could be a whole lot worse. I started watching/appreciating CFB in 1970. I remember scores flashing at bottom of screen (only one game on at a time, on one station). I remember 'Ohio State 50 Colorado 6', 'Alabama 41 Wyoming 3', or some such things. At some point in the mid nineties there was a UF/LSU game, Tigers getting drummed by 40 or 50, don't remember, but the thought struck me. "We're Wyoming!". There's no kick in the nutz quite like that, trust me.
You're comparing LSU's 58-3 loss in 1994 to Florida to the LSU-Alabama National Championship Game? That's really stupid. We sucked in 1994, had nothing going for us, nothing to gain. The winner of the LSU-Bama National Championship Game has bragging rights for the rest of the series. We could win the next four and Bama fans will still be able to point to the 21-0 drubbing. There is no silver lining in this one. Twenty years from now, Bama fans will still be using this as ammo in the concourse, before the game, at halftime, and after the game.
I still went to work the next day. I still paid my bills the next month. I gave up pizza for lent as I always do. But I wouldn't be a REAL Tiger fan if this loss didn't change me permanently. It doesn't mean I can't get excited on Sept 1st, it doesn't mean I won't buy SEC Championship tickets and reserve my hotel in Midtown Atlanta for the first weekend of December well in advance, but it DOES change my mentality going into the first week of November. Even if we win, it will be a REGULAR season game. If we win the next two, same thing. There may never be a way to exact revenge for a loss like Jan 9th, and that was why it was so important to win that game.
The ultimate goal is to win a National Championship, not to have bragging rights over delusional Bammers, I know this. I will undoubtedly feel a lot better when we win our next Natty, and that feat will be good enough to drown out the horrors that happened on Jan 9th, but when it comes to the LSU-Bama series in itself, whether you view it as a small or large entity, you can't deny that loss in the Superdome caused permanent damage to your fanhood. This was not a minor event. Because of this, as Tiger fans, we have to ask, "HOW IN THE frick DID THIS HAPPEN?"
This mystery tops the list of "How did we blow a 21 point lead to Tennessee?" (2005), "How did a team with that much talent go 4-7?" (1998), and "How did we lose to UAB?" (2000).
I wouldn't be a Tiger fan of 25 plus years if I didn't search for the truth.

Dude, get over it already. It's a game. It's not life or death. It was a huge loss but time will heal this wound. I get it. You're a great Tiger fan but you gotta let this go. Is this loss affecting your family life? Are you suicidal because of this loss? Are you constantly asking yourself "how did this happen"? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you need to seek therapy for real.
Anyway, LSU baseball is #1 bump!

I have a huge amount of optimism these days. We have a QB who looks better than we've had for the last 4 years. Our baseball team is #1. And Basketball just hired its favorite son who may be able to lock down the boot's talent. All I can say is GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!

I love the passion of LSURadioInIowa's post above. It was just a game...it wasn't life or death...but that loss to the Gumps hurt to my core as a fan too.
