I've said for a long time that Miles can be successful with great coordinators. The proof is in the Malveto and Crowton years. He is a great players coach and a great recruiter, but we've all seen the on field blunders.

I will be able to restore my faith in Miles if he gets a Chavis type guy on offense. I really though Krags was that guy, and he may have been but with his health we'll never no.
Miles does nothing with the "D". That is Chavis's baby and we've been at the top since he arrived.

I did see an improvement on offense this year, but most of that was due to a mature OL and J. Lee.
If we can get a great O.C. and let Miles say, it’s yours, I would instill all faith back in him. I just do not have any faith in Miles being too involved in play calling. I also think he needs to let his ego go when it comes to personnel decisions and take advice from his staff as to who should be in the game at certain times.

Spot on. Les Miles needs to find a OC and let him do the job. Maybe Studs is the guy, who knows? Will see next year with Mettenberger. Miles will only be as successful as the people he surrounds himself with.

I will say as well he needs to get over this infatuation with certain players as well. It really hampered the team in the end.

Dr Pepper halftime show every home game next year:

Trade in your BCSCG ticket for a chance to kick Les in the balls in the middle of the Eye

I agree with your point that we need a good OC to run the offense. And a good QB coach to assist.

Some do hate to hear it (again), but it was not lost on a lot of us that once JJ regained the starter role, and JL was summarily benched, the passing/receiving part of our offense took a statistical nosedive. And we began having shaky first halves (see Ark/UGA/UA) that required epic second halves to correct. The correction did not come in the UA game this time.

I agree 100%, and was telling my wife this exact thing last night. And it brought up another question in my mind: what exactly are we paying him nearly $4MM per year for if the end goal is for him to have NO involvement in the offense or defense?

Offense was solid this year, until JJ returned to the starter role.

My gut tells me that the offense with JL first 9 games was Krags/Stud and little input from Les. Now whether the JJ offense was heavily Les or just the only plays JJ could run, we will never know.

I too agree that we need an OC. I also think we need an OL coach. For me its more because i think stud hasbeen carried on this staff. He wasnt a good OL coach, i dont know why anyone would think hes a good OC without Krags.

Chief has faith in Miles ability in X's and O's and game planning. If thats not enough I actually have first hand info from a player that played for Les from UM that said on offense...there is no one better.
TIFWIW (Not much right now I know).

Also if Krags is really that sick he may want to retire......who knows

AS far as the OL coach ....Les should reach out to Mawae.....

Unfortunately, I dont think Les will make any changes except Wr coach because he has to.

He should be a Bobby Bowden type of coach, no question. Just get the players and let the coaches coach. Worked out pretty well for ol' Bobby...

This becomes the bottom line of any solution. The problem is if you try to take out a coach that has been as sucessful at him, you paint a gloomy picture at LSU. It's a rough spot to be in, but it's a spot they put themselves into. You can go 2 ways, pay the guy the money and get him the help, or let him nosedive the program and fire him. I'm sure no one wants the latter.

Monday night's BCS game was so incredibly bad that the only way faith can be restored is to win the BCSNC game next year in a way that is inversely as good as Monday night was bad.

That's my thinking 100% and maybe the BCS Championship was the Les Miles/JJ crescendo, where CLM did all the inspired play calling and JJ did all the great QBing. Umm... wait... oh, nevermind.

Anyone who says Miles shouldn't have an input in offense and defense is stupid. He's the damn head coach, of course he gets final say.

What I want to know is what did he see in Jefferson that made him bench Lee? If you could gameplan around JJ's running ability, then ok. But JJ did not have the running ability to gameplan around - but it seemed like Miles thought Jefferson was good enough to revolve your offense around. He wasn't. And offensive production suffered. He isn't a great runner - he's good enough to escapce pressure but that's about it - and his passing is awful.

I hope Miles has learned from this and does not try to fix an offense that isn't broken.

Only thing I worry about is Les may believe the season to be so successful, and getting to the NCG a possibility next year that he may rely on the same blueprint next year.

Bama came in with a totally different game plan in the NCG than we had seen from them in the past. I don't think Les has the ability to change as quickly. He needs to open things up a bit more and give himself more options. He painted himself into a corner in the NCG

Which is case in point why CLM needs to delegate coaching the offense to the OC, and stick to doing what he does best - recruit like crazy.
