Because obviously something happened between Miles and Lee. We dont know what it is quite yet, but it will come out eventually.

Noone knows, at this time, but it apparently is
something very serious for Miles to let a sizable
raise in pay go by without trying all his options.
It may go beyond the scope of simple talent and ability.

Like possibly his dad threatened to sue the athletic department over the rumor about Lee flunking out of school??? (just a wild crazy guess)
