Rivals, Scout... Recruiting rankings????

IMO.. These ranking are not very accurate as far as how these college teams pan out. If LSU gets LC we all know Miles has landed the # 1 class. I think that coaches like Miles and Saban have a knack for being able to pick out the kids that can compete at the next level despite their star ranking ala... Jacob Hester. There are a lot of 5 star kids that dominate on Friday nights but are really not cut out to play at the level of an LSU type system. Hell Rivals has Notre Dame up there every year and we all see where their program is...what are your opinions??

There is no distinguishable difference between classes in the top 5 or 10, really.

Thats why there's an art to it, but these ranking agencies are just a guide to potential. They can't project...team performance(Look at Texas, USC, Florida, and their recent rankings).

There are no guaranties with these ratings just like with ratings for the NFL draft. You will find kids that can play that are not rated high but general it does not hurt to pull in some of these highly rated kids. It usually increases your odds of having the right talent level. I think when you look at the Notre Dame they get some talented kids but they don’t get the overall speed and athleticism. They get enough highly rated kids to hit the top 10 but they are missing the depth in the class. Their lower ranked kids (3s & 2s) are not as good as the kids in the SEC. You see it with tOSU. They get a lot of great kids but no depth or overall team speed…. That is my 2 cents

These services do not take team needs into consideration, so I find their ranking systems to be questionable at best. They serve as a general guideline perhaps. ESPN is doing a very poor job of talent evaluation this year.

LA talent is just better than most

Especially when you include the Inland Empire and the whole of Southern California.

This is funny right there...but unless they grew up in Southern California, they probobly don't understand what the IE is.

And if I never heard that, or similar, posts on here, it would be too soon. I'll take a repeat that at least says something over a mindless statement like this.

Doh! Do I fee stupid?! NOT! Seriously, it was sarcasm... Do you really think they have some secret gene pool behind the Animal Science building that only LA (Louisiana, that is) prospects can swim in? The notion that LA (Louisiana) talent is "better than most" is just crazy talk. Raw talent is everywhere. California has is 33 MILLION people, and (except for scholarship limitations imposed thanks to our good friend Reggie Bush) USC gets the pick of that litter - year in and year out, not to mention being able to draw from AZ, NV OR and WA (that's Arizona, Nevada, Oregon and Washington). I'm a HUGE LSU fan - not a USC cheerleader but even with sanctions they will be preseason #1 or #2.
What Louisiana does have is a top notch farm program in the high schools. LSU also has, in my estimation, the very best coaching staff a recruit can hope for, but over time that talent is going to get raided and it will be a constant battle to compete against young, sexy programs. Remember, some of the best NFL athletes come from schools like Purdue, Cal and even Ole Miss!

You are right about a lot of those things. Some of the guys that are just decent in college turn out to be great pro players because of FIT and SCHEME . I remember Tiger fans hated the way Eugene Daniels played corner for us, got burnt, booed and sometimes benched. Eugene played 13 seasons in the NFL. Some players just need a chance or an opening to shine..

I thought their sanctions were up this year?

Rivals claims to, but we can't know for sure since their formula is super top secret.

Not at all. The bowl ban is over but the scholarships limitations (15/75) for 3 years begin THIS year. USC is going to be a shell of what they were in 4 years if they have any attrition.

Its why they will bust their chops to win NC next year. After that its a 7 year famine!
