Its fairly old (got it as a gift from a family that stayed with me after Katrina). Just weird that it worked fine when I went to bed and then next day its like the hard drive is gone.

must be a the phat white one which means it has to be the 20GB model cause i don't think the 60 and the 120 came out in '06.
i'd look into another HD if nothing else. buy new or just go out and get the new slim model cause it sounds like that one is on the edge of red ringing.

Do you happen to have a flash drive? Preferably bigger than 512mb?
