You said of the last 20 awarded, the 2004 title was awarded to USC. It was later vacated, but was still awarded.

Prior to 1998 and the start of the BCS, the AP NC was considered more prestigeious and if you want to say there shouldn't be a split title after 1998, that's fine, but prior to the start of the BCS that was not the case. Ga Tech won the 1990 title in a split poll, just like 1997 was a split title.

ETA: current members of the B1G have actually won 4 of the last 20-21 coaches national titles.

Of the last 20 recognized Coaches' National Champions. The Georgia Institute of Technology has as many titles as the entire Big Ten
