Les can't honestly believe Lee would have given up victory, based on what transpired through 8 games to start the season.
He may mean that his priority is to secure victory. The starters play until victory is secured. There are no other considerations prior to that point in time.
After that point in time, other considerations can be entertained, like playing the backups.

I understand what he is saying. Its still strikes me as strange statement.
Was victory assured in every game JJ came into as the backup earlier this season?
