When I was about 12 we hunted in the hills of Fort Adams. I shot at a doe with my 30-30 and shot low and forward. I found blood, so we got about 6 guys and went trail. Every time we got close, she'd jump up and run off. It was at night so didn't have any guns. She finally got winded and we caught up to her, but she wasn't dead. We tried hitting her with maglites and logs, but she kept going. Eventually a guy jumped on her back and slit her throat with a little 2 in Case knife. After twisting my ankle in a hole and rolling down a hill, we finally pulled her out of a gulley and got her back to the camp.

I had hit her in the front legs, both of them, and shatter both of them at the knees/elbows. At a young age I realized how important shot selection is.

After hearing all these CBS I'm jealous not to have been on one of these chases.
