Edit: Allen Copping passed away today.
Dr. Allen A. Copping, the 3rd president of LSU, is in bad health and might not make it through the weekend. Dr. Copping is 84 years old and is basically in a deep unresponsive sleep.
Uncle Allen, as I know him, has been a family friend for as long as I can remember. He and my grandfather have been friends since they were children. He is responsible in part for LSU as you know it today. He oversaw, in conjunction with David Treen, the gift from C.B. Pennington that made LSU's medical program what it is today. Please keep this remarkable man in your prayers on this Thanksgiving week.

As chancellor, Dr. Copping will have jurisdiction over the planned Pennington Biomedical Research Center. His office also has responsility for six professional schools, two medical schools, a dental and nursing school, a school of allied health professions, a graduate school and a number of hospitals in the state.

He was a great man, instrumental in LSU Health Sciences Center's contribution to the healthcare of so many of Louisiana's citizens. I was honored to be handed my Medical Diploma by Dr.Copping. My prayers are with him and his family.

As Dr. Copping is a dentist, we knew all about him and he was often around when I was a dental student.
We'll keep him in our prayers.
