I do have one more question for those who have taken it,the affidavit that is in the application,do you take that to a notary yourself?

Yes, unless you have one in the family, or the instructor is one - some are..

Ask your instructor. Sometimes it's included in the class or they can give you the name of someone that will do it for cheap or free.
