Anybody hunt the Ville Platte area up around Chicot State Park for duck on rice fields? I'll have my first hunt there in a few weeks and will not have a chance to recon the area ahead of time...curious to know if the area habitually has ducks.

There are usually quite a few ducks flying up there

I have a lease in the ville platte area, we did pretty good last year. We have already saw a lot of ducks also.

yes, hunt in rice fields at cazan lake, just east of chicot park. Typically a lot of birds, but it's duck hunting so you never know. There have been a lot of teal in the area and starting to get good numbers of big ducks. Worked on a blind there today and it looked like a lot of the teal had left after this front.

That cold front didn't help?

I guess the front pushed them farther south.

I'm still stoked - first time i've been on a lease. Looking forward to taking my son on his first real duck hunt. Thanks for the info.

I'm heading to the blind on in a couple of weeks to brush it up...I'm sure most OBers who duck hunt can identify with this as well, but I can't stop thinking about duck season.
