Chavis is good but Pelini might be better.

Pelini had a very read and react defense.

Chavis attacks a lot more. I like Chavis better.

This. Chavis would have made the 2006 defense better than this one and we would have another NC.

Chavis.

Our guys always know what they're doing and where they're supposed to be.

Always.

That was never the case with Pelini.

I agree Chavis is a better DC, more attacking style and doesn't have games where the defense is just run off the field. Yes he might give some yards up in some games but he keeps the score low.

yet I think some of you might be selling Bo a bit short. He had a great defense in 07 that got hurt and tired at the end of the season. We did not have near the depth in the secondary then that Chavis has to work with now. Yes our Line was amazing, but after the front line guys in the secondary it was thin.

Chavis is better, but also has more talent overall.

Chavis. We had basically no d line in 2009 and he fielded a pretty good defense. What he's doing with the current talent is no accident. He's among the best in the business.

Chavis is bend but dont break. Peleni is a lot more aggressive.

LSU's defense this year does have the luxury of playing teams that are spiraling down. FL is on the #3 QB, while Peleni's defense was facing Tebow and FL at their peak. UK had a high flying offense then, Arkansas had McFadden+crew. The TENN we faced this year is on their #2/#3 QB.

Chavis. Been impressed since his first season when LSU's scoring defense was much much improved.

The bad part about all this is that once we win the MNC, we can say bye-bye to Chavis just like did with Bo.

07' wasnt great, but i think the other years LSU consistently had a legit top 3-5 defense.

True but we also got shredded by Arkansas in 2007 and Kentucky didn't do half bad either. LSU this year shut down the highest scoring offense in the country. I think this year's defense is better but it is very close. They're hard to compare because they play in different ways.

not only tiger fans, but most fans consider pelini a very good DC. I dont think he is overrated at all.

I dont think Chavis has aspirations of becoming a HC. He is one of the highest paid DC.
