Okay so hold the phone - not necessarily saying CBS is the devil, although Verne Lundquist sometimes has that look about him like he could devour your soul and ask for a side of cole slaw...

But anyways, I like most of you despise the CBS day games. On the ground in Baton Rouge, it's just the most annoying thing that could happen during football season, aside from clock management issues, triple overtime losses, Lafellian fumbles...

I mean you get it. They suck. We are creatures of the night and we like our night games. A side of us comes out when "the sun finds its home in the western sky" Saturday nights in Death Valley. It's like feeding Gizmo after midnight...we become rabid monsters. And it feels so good!

So when we're forced to cut our days in half, postpone the tailgate for a few hours and start back up afterward, it just doesn't make as much sense as tailgating all day and picking up the late-night party after a win. It doesn't feel as good. It's hard for me to side with anything that takes away our beloved night games. But I'm going to try:

As an alum now living in Washington, D.C., I enjoy having the games broadcast nationally. There are two bars here - 18th Amendment and Arlington Rooftop - who graciously host LSU watch parties every game day, so it's rarely an issue that I can't watch the games. If I can't make it to one of these sites, however, knowing that the games are on TV is reassuring, and so far it's worked out to have the games played during the afternoon.

Who cares, you say? A lot of folks up here don't get college football, but people like me are in cities all over the country selling LSU and LSU football to people like them, and to tell you the truth they've started to watch. Games on CBS increase the national profile of our team, and folks have seen some DOMINATING performances. And if normal people are watching, players and coaches are watching, and they'll want to steer talent our way. All good in the end, right? No?

Let's settle, then, on cold hard cash. There's money involved, and we're getting it. And that's always a good thing.

Just think about it this way if you're still not convinced (truly, I'm not, but it helps me sleep at night if there's not a game on): CBS is picking up our games because we're playing great football. Would you rather watch what's shaping into an all-time great team during the day or those 90's teams at night? Think about it.

I also realize that since there's thousands of threads on here that most if not all of what I've said has possibly already been said. Which leads me back to Verne Lundquist. Is there anything he won't eat?

Here's my rub -- CBS usually televises one SEC game in "prime-time"(night) a season, right? How come it's never in Baton Rouge? Sure, they'll televise an LSU vs. ALA game at night, or LSU-FL, but it's on the road and not in Tiger Stadium. I don't believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that either Bama or FL particularly care if they play at day or night, and everyone, including CBS, knows that LSU prefers night home games, so, isn't CBS being sort of dickish?

I have no problem with CBS hosting LSU games. I just wish the rest of the country could see us at our best....which happens to be at night. Some may disagree, that's fine, but I have been to games all around the country and nothing compares to Tiger Stadium at night. It's just Magical. :

I agree with your point on exposure. My wife's friend is from New Jersey, and she has become a Tiger fan by dating another Tiger up here and watching LSU practically every week kicking arse on TV. I love having more fans, even developing into a national brand would be pretty awesome.

Coincidentally, we are also in the DC area. We'll have to check out Rooftop & 18th Amendment.

CBS is in the business of making money PERIOD! They don't care about someone's tradition, nor should they. Their job is to get thier product out to as many people as possible. As the OP stated, many areas of the U.S. are not huge fans of college football. Go to DC, Boston, Philly, Chicago, etc. I'm sure that CBS has a reason for placing their game of the week at 2:30 and although some my disagree, that reason is not to make LSU fans piss and moan about the start time. Many people outside of the southeast do other things (i.e. movies, dinner, bars, etc.) on Saturday nights besides watching college football.

CBS pays big money for the right to broadcast the "best" SEC game of the weekend. ALL SEC schools, including LSU, benefit greatly from that money, much more so that they money LSU would get from the purchase of LSU forks or a 15th "on my way to see the Tigers play" magnet

This is the era of college football that we live in. Get over it! As long as the CBS contract is in place, the same thing will happen next year.
