I think JJ unfortunately is the face of the Gary Crowton offense...

This is why most fans are reluctant to get him back on board. He was set up to fail with poor preparation, poor play calling, poor clock management etc. Unfortunatly for him, he was at the helm during the bulk of it. Fans just want to get past that and move on to what we currently have, which is a solid identity of an offense. It consistantly moves the chains and runs the clock. JL came in at a good time and has played solid, but as another thread shows, his numbers weren't that much better than JJ at the end of last year. We are so much happier now than last year though. Being number 1 in the country will do that though.

hmmm, you may be on to something. I often got pouty-faced the last 3 yrs of Crowton's tenure as well.

When you say this I get an image like that sappy commercial of all the QBs who have suffered under Crowton locked in cages with frowns on their faces and the Sarah McLaughlin song playing in the background.

There is no doubt that several clock mishaps were the direct result of the formation gimmickry that Crowton was always trying to pull.
Guess what, Gary? If you take a delay of game, your formation advantage is nil.

Please quit blaming someone that wasn't throwing the ball. Did crowton instruct JJ to throw a quarter of the passes at the receivers feet? Did Crowton take away JJ's ability to read the defense? How about, did Crowton instruct JJ to hold on to the ball an extraordinary length of time to help the opposing defense get a sack? I could go on and on, so please quit blaming someone else for JJ's shortcomings!

It makes sense, but at a certain point, his performance is reflective of his skills and not just the system in which he operated.

This is idiotic. His passes were not that bad. Sure he had some bad ones, but so does every QB.

No, it was his job to TEACH JJ the ability to read the defense. Same with Lee. Crouton was definitely partly to blame for Pick 6.

Again, he did not teach either of them not to. You still see Lee fold into the pocket at times, but that's part of growing as a QB and it's clearly improving sans Crouton.

If so, then he's the scapegoat in Provo and Eugene as well, and soon to be College Park.
Poor Gary. It's amazing how this poor guy comes in with this great offense and he gets stuck with these shitty, underachieving QBs who just magically get better as soon as he leaves.
He must be the unluckiest guy in the whole, wide world.

I actually pointed out a glaring error in Crowton's technical coaching in 2009 the other night, but no one bothered to listen.

I'll tell you how bad his passes were Jester; we had a 5 star stud receiver that couldn't even get drafted because of his shitty arm and decision making!
