I think it's almost certain that some LSU football player(s) kicked a dude in the head repeatedly while he was down and outmanned in a bar fight, and any players doing this should be kicked off the team in my opinion.
The fact that Johns & Jefferson are facing major charges, while nobody else does, looks very bad for them. It's hard to believe that prosecutors would be so incompetent to just randomly charge guys based on the most exciting rumors out there.
On the other hand, the case is looking bad for prosecutors right now. You don't necessarily have to have a criminal case against a player in order for the coach to decide that he needs to be kicked off the team, but at this point, I suppose it's possible that the B.R. prosecutors just Nifong-ed this thing from start to finish.
Even so, it still seems like if JJ had some kind of involvement in the fight, or else the behavior of Miles and the rest of the team really doesn't seem to make much sense to me.
I, too, have had a hard time believing that both of the JJs are completely clean in all of this, so Jefferson taking the stand seems extremely risky; perjury is not joke--especially over a crime that's likely to be pled out as a misdemeanor. But Unglesby is, by all accounts, a very good trial lawyer. I can't imagine why he'd allow this if he wasn't sure that there was something significant to be gained from Jefferson giving his side to the jurors.
Maybe he is actually innocent (I'm entertaining that thought for the first time).

quote:I'm actually curious about this. Do you generally assume people are guilty when they are arrested, or was there something in particular about this case that made you believe that? I'm only asking because up here in Virginia I have virtually zero access to "real" information, and I'm certainly never going to make any assumption regarding guilt or innocence based on the rumor mill/tidal wave of bullshite that is internet media. I'm wondering if there was some real information the you found significant or if you just never thought about it much.
