UAB vice president Richard Margison outlined preliminary plans for the proposed on-campus football stadium to the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees on Friday.

The plan calls for a horse-shoe stadium that would seat 27,511 with an additional 2,500 lawn seats in one end zone. It would also include 33 suites and 24 loge boxes. The proposed cost for the stadium complex is $66 million with a total project cost of $75 million.

Margison's presentation came during the Athletics committee meeting.

The next step in the process would be for UAB to approach the board for Phase 1 approval. That could come as early as the November meeting.

"We are looking forward to you coming back in November or as early as you can to get this project on the road," said Trustee John McMahon, who chairs the Athletic Committtee.

Expandable and right next to a future AA baseball stadium, should be fun LINK

Bama owns you so much whoever you hire has to be sufficiently sucky or Bama will stop you from hiring him, so you need their permission first

I totally forgot about that. I think he likes where he is now though.

Hah, this should piss off the Dome crowd quite a bit. Where exactly would they put it though for it to be "on campus" (I can't tell the location very well from that pic) just doesn't seem like there is a whole lot of space to be popping up a new stadium anywhere around there.

can't tell much from that picture but it looks pretty nice. But then again, there are high school stadiums UAB could relocate to that would be better than Legion Field.

You'd be surprised at how little space it takes...have you ever been to hattiesburg? The rock at USM holds more than that proposed stadium in birmingham and takes up basically no space.

They are actually expanding campus(dorms, classrooms, etc) past Bartow Arena and left of university blvd so that will be good, not to mention the bars/restaurants that will pop up between that and the baseball stadium.

I think it's like 11th street 5th avenue, not far from the new railroad park.

This is absolutely necessary if UAB wants to be serious about football. It has been impossible to generate enthusiasm for the program playing at Legion Field. IMO they should keep Calloway to help gain approval for the stadium, you know, bammers helping bammers, then once ground is broken, kick his butt to the curb and go hire somebody like Curtis Luper who can get folks excited.

Is UAB in a good part of Birmingham? I was shocked when I saw how bad the neighborhood was around USC's campus in LA. I'm talking third world bad.

Come to think of it, the University of Houston was in a pretty bad area as well. Not many urban schools are in as nice of an area as say, Tulane is.

It's certainly not in a good area, but I would say it's better than USC or Miami
