Was there some conflict with a livestock-sex festival in Starkvegas on Saturday or something?

Seriously though, just wondering...such a horrible date for it.

only show in town and national exposure for the home team

Miss St is the home team and ESPN offered them the deal

they took it, and it's as simple as that

I kind of like it.
Fans across the country will be watching.
Plus it comes after Northwestern, which was good timing.

ESPN wanted an SEC Thursday night matchup. I don't know who decided it would be LSU vs MSU but neither school had much of a say in the matter.

State is a suitcase college in a small Miss town. They'll have better student attendance on Thurs than they would on Sat. They jumped at ESPN's offer.

Mississippi State didn't initiate a Thursday night game. They were informed by the conference office they would be playing on a Thursday after ESPN made their request.

A lot of people thought we were crazy for this year's schedule, but I kind of like it. I think it's HUGE for our program, and it is set up to keep the intensity going. Projecting fearless leadership instead of scheduling creampuffs for 3-4 weeks. It also helps in recruiting and $.

Guess ESPN thought it would be a great SEC matchup and probably figured both would be undefeated. I can't believe any SEC school would open the season on the road against the worst team in the country

Actually the schools do have some say so on this. ESPN and SEC asked schools if they would consider a Thursday night game. Verge said LSU looked at schedule and agreed right away. Coming off a week against a weaker opponent, they thought it wouldn't be an issue for them. Plus it gives them 10 days for the road trip to WVU.

LSU didn't think Miss St would consider it coming directly off a physical Auburn game. Verge was surprised State agreed to it.
