yeah, like you said college football is based on "body of work". If LSU lost and its body of work was much better than other contender to play bama, then so be it. If it is a close call between LSU and someone else, the polls will and should give the nod to that other team.
That is why I like the checks and balances of the BCS computers and human polls. Computers carry enough weight to give deserving teams there due but not so much that they trump common sense. Va Tech had a slightly better computer score than LSU in 07, but the human polls put LSU ahead (without having to unethically push Va tech down).
