"Seriously, LSU’s Miles can coach"

Seriously, LSU’s Miles can coach
By Dan Wetzel
ARLINGTON, Texas – He talks funny. He wears his hat funny. He sings “Calling Baton Rouge” in a funny way. He eats grass, of course, and that’s funny. He calls funny plays at the funniest times and even wins games with great comedic timing.
There was even one point during the fourth quarter here Saturday that LSU coach Les Miles shouldered up to a referee and appeared to be telling funny joke. And then there was postgame when he tried to say “Go Cowboys”, only with a Cajun flair.
“That’s spelled G-u-a-u-x,” Miles said.
Ah, no it’s not.
“G-e-a-u-x”
There you go.
Yes, the Mad Hatter is a big joke, until you have to play his LSU Tigers.
. . . because if there is one secret to Les Miles run of success, it’s that for all the funny things that happen in front of the cameras, there’s hours and hours of seriousness when no one is looking.
LSU began preparing its defense to handle Oregon’s fast-break offensive timing just days after last year’s victory in the Cotton Bowl. Throughout spring practice, and then into fall camp, Miles and his staff dreamed up a drill called “tempo” that would condition the Tigers for the challenge.
It featured one defense facing two offenses. One offensive unit would line up and run a play while the other huddled. When the play ended, the second offense would sprint into formation and snap the ball as fast as possible and the defense would have to scramble into position. Then the first offense would huddle and repeat the cycle.
It caused defenders minds to spin and their muscles to burn. It also got them ready to stuff the Oregon offense and negate the Ducks’ usual schematic advantage.

Germans never looked so good. Les is the real deal. He does a bunch of shite that you can't explain (like almost running to UO's sideline yesterday ) but he has beaten the best time and again.
If we win it all this year, greatest coach in LSU history hands down.

Anyone who hasn't realized this yet is a moron.
And it is amazing how he is endlessly the butt of jokes.
I'm just sick of the way people and the media treat him. They are all douchebags. Les Miles is better at his job than you will ever be at yours.

Yet here he was in Cowboys Stadium, another big game, another big win, another supposed genius coach humbly crossing the field to shake his hand in concession.

Like the rest of you I love Les to death but his QB evaluation has been questionable - especially a year ago - JJ was anemic and Les rode that instead of giving Lee ample opportunity to find a groove and demand a better Offense

Lee like JJ has shown flashes of brilliance. I don't see how anyone could say either was demonstrably better than the other.

I for one had faith in Miles' plan. Just keep running! Even after the 31 yards of offense through the first 1 1/2 quarters. Of course, if our defense can't hold, that plan would have sucked.
But it did! And Les must've known it would. Hell, he ran the ball on 3rd and goal from the 5! NO ONE EVER DOES THAT!

Yeah losing those 11 games last year was pretty bad.
When are all of you doubters and nay sayers going to learn? Zipping the ball downfield 89 times a game isn't and will never be Les Miles' style. All of your crybabying won't change that. So grow up, get over it, or root for TCU.
ps He really DOES know more about football than you do. Really.

If you guys don't get that QB play isn't the focus of a Les Miles team, you never will.

Les is a pretty good CEO. He catches grief for being loyal to his staff, but they, in turn, are pretty loyal to him. Still, he's made the personnel changes he's had to make, and he consistently brings in top coaches who fill a need- like Chavis and Kragthorpe. He has this team right where we all want it. My hat's off to the guy.

Les Miles Great Coach, Great mentor & Great man.
In the day where integrity rarely exist, he is what is good for college football. Others Poke fun of him but of course it is because of that "Green Monster"-jelousy and the fact that they can rarely beat him.
And in the BIG game, who do you want on your side line? I'll take Les.

Yet we have poster on here that will rip the coach and his staff with any sign of adversity. Truly stupid and short sighted. BBQ buddies keep kicking arse I guess.

Les to me is more importantly great at being one hell of a decent caring person, a trait that few coaches display as quietly as he does all too often.

Finally, someone who understands a Miles coached team.

I love this quote, and I'm really starting to love how Les is shaping LSU's football culture this season - Bo Schembechler is not a bad role model, nor are his great Michigan teams of yore poor examples of what that can mean for a team and a college...
quote:
He played and coached under Bo Schembechler, remember. Of course he’d build his teams like this, with the kind of brutes in the trenches that eventually wore down the Ducks on both sides of the ball.
