Seeking Clarity on Russell Shepard Situation

I know I'll be slaughtered for this, but is RS suspended indefinitely and what exactly is the timeline? Has LSU appealed and is waiting on a decision?
I keep hearing so many conflicting reports, anything from 2-6 game to the whole season.
This also seems beyond absurd of the NCAA to hold him hostage over speaking to another player.
I'll take my lumps for not knowing, but any insight would be appreciated.

Totally agree. They let Ohio State play in the Sugar Bowl after all the shite they did and Shep gets suspended for talking to his cousin about his inquiry. Doesn't seem right.

i think a problem may have been the timing of reporting his possible infraction. it was kind of late
i may be wrong about that
the NCAA has to investigate and determine his eligibility. prior to that, if we play him, we risk forfeiting games. i have a feeling the NCAA will have him sit for 4 games like AJ green and company

The question I have is how did they learn of the contents of a private conversation. This is an abuse of power IMO.

does anyone else have a feeling that their may be more to this story than the housing/giving advice to another player issues? i just found it interesting that we had never even caught wind of the second issue until the suspension was levied.

We don't know how long he will be ineligible for. Right now he's just flat out ineligible until that changes. LSU is seeking reinstatement with the NCAA, but it will take a while for them to rule, likely forcing him to miss multiple games.
The only report on this says that both LSU and the NCAA found that he violated the rule, but that only LSU has found him ineligible. This is probably just LSU wanting to make damned sure he can play before allowing him on the field, hence the appeal of its own decision.

He's not suspended -- he has been declared ineligible by the LSU athletic department, which has applied to the NCAA to have his eligibility restored.
He was declared ineligible because he was found to have discussed with a teammate that teammate's upcoming "testimony" to the NCAA staff as part of an investigation. Such advance discussion is expressly prohibited by NCAA rules. According to one story I read yesterday (can't remember where so I don't have a link), the investigation was about the Lyles situation, not his housing issue.
Nobody should kid themselves into believing that discussing with another party what they are going to tell investigators is anything other than a serious matter.
