A&M move flies in face of reason

"Anyway, the $20 million a year the Big 12 guaranteed A&M in TV revenues is more than the SEC gives each of its teams.
And what about the departure tax that will be part of A&M's divorce settlement with the Big 12?
It could be as much as $30 million, but maybe A&M can do as good a job negotiating this year's payout as it did with last year's payoff.
I would love to talk to A&M athletic director Bill Byrne about this, but he is more difficult to get these days than the Longhorn Network."
"We are receiving the same financial dollars (we) would have received by going east or west. Plus, our operating costs are reduced. Our estimates said it would cost us an extra million dollars a year in travel to go east or west. … And, we won't have to pay as many exorbitant fees to get non-conference teams to come play us in Aggieland."
According to the school's president and athletic director, a move to the SEC could hurt athlete-students' academic performances and might be worse for it financially."
"When we built the 12th Man Productions facilities, our plan was all along to eventually put together an Aggie Network," Byrne wrote a year ago. "We are better positioned than any other conference school to do it."
Oops. When Dodds read that, his hair must have stood up on his head like Don King.
So Texas beat the Aggies to the punch with an ESPN partnership and the Aggies' feelings are so hurt they will make a move that could be a worse financial deal and will be a more difficult academic situation for athletes?
Need I even get into it being much tougher for them to win conference and national championships in the SEC?"
If the Aggies move they will forgo Money for stability and branding it will also cost TAMU another $1M in travel expenses..
TAMU has 5 schools, yes 5, over 940 miles away, that is FAR.

As has been stated no less than 1,000 times, there is a window for renegotiating the SEC TV deal after this year, and it is eligible to go to 3rd party arbitration as well. This would result in more money because of the addition, possibly additions, to the conference. Jerome conveniently left that out to fulfill his agenda.

No wonder no one likes arkansas fans.

Ah, ok. Still, I think we would be willing to sacrifice one year of less money if it means more money in the future, along with the obvious stability it brings compared to our previous conference.

Not to mention, there's talk of huge booster donations that are hinging on the SEC decision.

All the SEC wants with a&m is another team to arse rape. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
They think their recruiting is gonna go through the roof because they will be in the SEC. They don't realize that the top schools are always going to get the best ones and they're going to get the leftovers. Nothing will change.
More money? Not right away. They'll get a pro rata share, like nebby in the Big 10. What SEC school will want to give up a portion of what they get just to get a$m? And, contract renegotiation is not a sure thing AFAIK.
Don't get me wrong--y'all can have'em and good riddance. From what I've read, most UT fans want them to go just to shut up the whining and crying.
Good luck to the SEC. You will soon see what we've seen for years. Maybe.

How much more?
SEC $18.1M per team
Big12 TAMU - $20M starting next year.
What if the 14th team isn't as strong as TAMU for markets, that will decrease the per revenue of each team.

Is that money going to materialize? Or will it be those spectacular beebe bucks?

I would think it would not happen if revenue was going to decrease, Slive is very smart. While our side may be driven by a number of different factors, the SEC's side is likely driven purely by money.

Its not like we are going to be playing Florida or UT every two years.

Texas and OU will always dominate Texas you are just now letting in Ark, LSU and Bama even more than before.
What they don't understand is even if the SEC expands its still be hind the Big10 and whatever the Pac12 does depends on if the SEC goes into 2nd or 3rd in revenue stream.
I'm all for the Aggies coming over because it opens all the sports writers and reports slapping around the name Arkansas from Dallas to Houston.

This also. The Big 12 is so fricked up there's no guarantee we would get that money.

If A&M leaves the Big12 tomorrow, the Big12's tv contract is void because the conference will drop below the required 10 teams. A&M will get exit fees decreased by agreeing to hang around until the Big12 has someone lined up, or will get the 2 year advance notice buyout if they threaten to hang around as lame ducks like Nebraska and Colorado did. Either way, I would bet they aren't looking at more than 15M. Beebe and Dodds know that if someone is leaving, it's better for stability to just move on. They're better off dumping A&M, adding BYU or whoever, having 10 teams in 2012 and one more being someone not looking for a better table to sit at than to hold onto A&M and risk dealing with a mass exodus in 2013. Can you imagine the clusterfrick this would be if Nebraska and Colorado had hung around this year to get the lower payout and all three schools were leaving after this season? Kansas, KState, and Mizzou would think the sky is falling and be in the Big East in a heartbeat.

Every single SEC East school is over 940 miles away from TAMU.
OR..
TAMU has 2 SEC Schools within 550 Miles.
Arkansas, from the farthest northwest part of the state, has 5 SEC schools within 550 Miles.
TAMU is very far away. If we play 8 or 9 conference games those Jet Fuel Costs add up to TAMU not near as much to everyone else.

If you think jet fuel costs are a deal breaker in this, you need to look at the big picture

Not if BYU signs the same time TAMU leaves then nothing happens. If I was Beebe I'd add back to 12 teams.
TAMU still has exist fees to pay and will receive less money for more branding and stability in the SEC, that's the bottom line.

So what? Who cares dude, its still the right choice. Stop trying to be all debbie downer all the time, quoting articles from some hack in the chron.

Still a factor.
TAMU can subtract $1M or more for each equal share of the SEC pot at the end of the year for travel costs alone.
