I don't think anyone really should, particularly not knowing the details.
I have a problem with how quickly and forcefully "society" in general is willing to take privilege and freedom away from people for such minor things. If there is indeed serious injury, I could understand 4-5 games at most. Spur of the moment youthful "indiscretions" shouldn't cost someone a whole year of eligibility and possibly a chance at a future career.

If there is indeed a serious injury then he has committed felony assault and missing football games is the least of his worries.
