Thank you for your reminder about how easy it is to forget what it was like to be 18, 19 or 20. Your point about being judged on you most embarrassing moment really hit home with a lot of people. Very thought-provoking article, very well written, and something that really needed to be said. And you said it in a way that most could not. Best of luck.

I can't imagine how difficult it is for student-athletes today...not just classes and the physical toll, but having to memorize complex playbooks and learn an NCAA rulebook the size of most phone books covering every little thing you CAN'T do.
As coach Chip Kelly has said several times regarding the rule book, "According to NCAA rules, if it makes sense, if it seems reasonable, you can't do it."
Unfortunately we live in an era where everybody has twitter and cameras in their pockets, so the tiniest little error gets out there in public view. I know when I was 18 I made a ton of mistakes in judgment, doesn't make me a bad person, but like everybody I've made mistakes...if I was a student athlete in 2011 doing those things having all of my dirty laundry being aired out on national airwaves, that'd be really tough to deal with.
Hopefully we learn from our mistakes, isn't that the point? That's when I get mad whenever I hear LeGarrette Blount's name forever being associated with his worst moment. Just watch this NFL season, every single Tampa Bay Bucs game where his name gets mentioned time it, it'll be maybe 5 seconds before the word "punch" is used...I mean seriously, one bad moment and that's all people know him for...it's not right.
