which is more prestigious? depends on the club and country? do you have to prove yourself as a good club manager before you would be considered as a international squad coach?

That's a really tough question. I'd say right now the more prestigious coaches are club coaches. You see them a lot more often, and on a more consistent basis, than national team coaches. When you think about famous, "prestigious" coaches, who do I immediately think about? Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Arsene Wenger. Then again, there are going to be people here who argue the opposite, that national team coaches are more prestigious (and then provide their own list). It's kind of a toss up, but I think coaching a club provides more exposure, except during World Cup years.

Def club right now. Well at least in prominence. Quick: name the Portugal coach. I bet you can name more Portuguese coaches (Mourinho, AVB) first.

Objection, your honor, leading the witness.
Eh, sustained.
My b. But point remains.

Club coaches can pile on accomplishments year after year.
International coaches typically just get one shot at the World Cup.
So club coaches.
That being said, I'd much rather win a World Cup as a coach than the Champions League.
