Building A BBQ Pit

Anybody on here know anything about building BBQ pits. I got a 250 gallon propane tank. I've been looking for something to build the firebox out of. A friend of mine has a piece of casing that is 20" wide x 24" long. Is this big enough?

ive never built one that big, but, i would think that piece of pipe would probly be big enough.. maybe would just have to spend a little more time cutting wood to "right" size..

To be fair. I have been present about 1/10th of the time while a friend builds
But I cant wait to stack the butt and ribs on it.

A tank that size does not need a firebox. If you want you can just make a trough to take in and out to dump coals, or burn them directly on the bottom. The lid on that baby will be heavy. Be prepared to have a counter weight for it.

It's going on a trailer. I thought about the sliding grate, but I want it to be able to get indirect heat to the whole cooking chamber. Thanks for all the replies!

I agree. I never use my firebox anymore.
