This was mentioned in the advocate yesterday and it got me thinking IF they join would A&M actually become a true rival for LSU? Im too young to remember when we used to play them often but is there really enough bad blood left over from 15 years ago to carry over now? The cotton bowl certainly wasn't any kind of rivalry catalyst. It seems this would be more of a media forced deal unless they started winning a lot of games the first 5 or so years. I just don't see how they would replace my hatred for teams like Bama, Auburn, and UF. I see them becoming another Arkansas "rivalry." What says tigah nation?

If they want a rivalry they could always come out and stomp the eye, then walk around with cigars like a bunch of jackass'. Could get things going pretty quick.

I know the all time series is pretty even but from here out I envision most LSU/A&M games going exactly like the Cotton Bowl last year. In other words it may be a little too one-sided to be a really heated rivalry, IMO

(let's see what happens when I post this ...)

Ya damn swamp kitties better pay up for breaking that contract with us! I can't say I blame y'all for wanting to back out of it after getting blasted 5 years in a row, but let's all be serious here it was a puss move. Bitches got lucky last year at the Cotton Bowl with a QB that played way over his head. Bring the hate ya backwoods pieces of flamin' shyit!!!!

I just made a thread asking about this, wasn't sure what people mean saying LSU owed A&M money. How much exactly?

rivalry no doubt

bad blood, recruiting battles. corporate trash talk

the energy sector (east texas - south LA) corridor have a lot aggies and tigers working together.

i see this as a marquee conference bloodbath. Lsu can then have Florida for more bad blood and A&M will always love to kick some sip gay arse.

and as much as we love the matchups vs SEC schedules. A&M vs. texas could get huge after this breakup.

but vs. lsu, no doubt this becomes a 'hostile' game

Your hate for faggies will EXCEED all hate that has come before. As soon as they hit campus, the hate will return.

In all seriousness I've no idea. Just an old school A&M/LSU rivalry talking point.

yeah I imagine that would get things heated quick regaurdless of the outcome of the game. I hope they do pull some antics as I'de love to have a big rivalry game with a team that doesn't have a bigger rival than us. Bama has the Barners and vice versa and UF has FSU. Arkansas is just a yawner "meh" of a rivalry. At least A&M has the tradition and potential to eventually become our "true" rival.

Rival or not, Smiley Anders has been printing Aggie jokes in The Advocate since before the Civil War.

Good to hear. So Texas would stay on your yearly schedule if ya'll move?

Jefferson was only average that game. But maybe that is way over his head.

On the old rec.sport.football.college newsgroup, this was a very active topic of discussion. LSU eventually became known as "Chickenous Sluts" for cancelling our contract with A&M.

[reprinted from today's Bryan Eagle, with appropriate editorial editing
as I saw fit]
A&M Athletic Director Wally Groff Tuesday announced that LSU had 'chickened'
out of the current football series. A&M will travel to Baton Rouge next
September to end the current series which began in 1986.
"They broke it with us," Groff said. "On Sept. 1, Joe Dean called me and
told me he wanted out of the four years remaining on our contract. I was
shocked. I told him we needed a comparable replacement. He said Nevada-Reno
would play, but I didn't feel that was comparable [ed note: I do].
"In December he sent me a fax that said they were definitely out for '96
thru '99. I faxed him back that we would not release them from the contract
until we find a comparable replacement."
Unless A&M releases it from the contract, LSU must pay a penalty clause of
$200,000 (half the guarantee) for each game.
"LSU wanted out of the game because they are a bunch of pansy-assed sissy-boys.
They also mumbled something about an already difficult schedule with the
expanded Southeastern Conference schedule but it's hard to understand them
cajuns when they start wimpering too much."

+1. The tebow era cemented my hatred. Their student fans are easily the most annoying when they come here and I have to find my inner happy place when I go to gainsville to not hit somebody.

their fans were dipshits at the 06 SECCG, saw enough frosted tips that day to last a lifetime.
