A&M Athletic Director Wally Groff Tuesday announced that LSU had 'chickened'
out of the current football series. A&M will travel to Baton Rouge next
September to end the current series which began in 1986.
"They broke it with us," Groff said. "On Sept. 1, Joe Dean called me and
told me he wanted out of the four years remaining on our contract. I was
shocked. I told him we needed a comparable replacement. He said Nevada-Reno
would play, but I didn't feel that was comparable [ed note: I do].
"In December he sent me a fax that said they were definitely out for '96
thru '99. I faxed him back that we would not release them from the contract
until we find a comparable replacement."
Unless A&M releases it from the contract, LSU must pay a penalty clause of
$200,000 (half the guarantee) for each game.

They also mumbled something about an already difficult schedule with the
expanded Southeastern Conference schedule but it's hard to understand them
cajuns when they start wimpering too much."
