Was it this big of an ordeal when Ark and USC-e came into the league? Obviously there wasn't the media coverage there is now but were politics, networks, etc involved to make things this complicated?

I wasn't old enough to remember, but from what the older fans tell me is FSU said NO and Vince Dooley said bring in South Carolina for us.

So that didn't seem too tough.

Then again we were independent so it couldn't have been as difficult as Arky. or what's currently going on with A&M

I remember Coach Crowe not getting a chance to dominate.

Other han Bobby pussing out, no it wasnt a big deal. Half the SWC was on probation, and Texas wasnt shite cause their admins had chosen to de-emphasize football.

I was too young as well, can't imagine with the Hogs being the only big school in the state there would be a political issue.

Not sure how the SWC reacted though.

At the time they were basically 7 teams (SMU was in it but still f'd up). So probably more like well that's it, time to end.

If i remember correctly, TAMU was supposed to join us instead of Arkansas, but the Texas legislature and Ann Richards stopped it to keep the Texas teams intact.

So, yes. Yes it was.

I thought Richards came into play when the Big 12 was formed to ensure her alma mater Baylor got a seat at the table.

Yes, A&M turned down the SEC in the early 90's. Idk if it was political though or if A&M just wanted to stay in the SEC where they were the top dog at the time.

And Anne Richards along with other political figures made sure Baylor and Tech were in the Big XII and not left out
