Big10(+1+1=12?) announces 9 game conference schedule in 2017

After a lot of pissing and moaning about it, The B1G will go to a 9 game conference schedule in 2017.
A) I don't understand how this will be "fair", half the teams will have more away than home conference games.
B) Think this paves the way to add 2 more teams before then?
I really don't understand how teams approved this, because it means losing one home game every two years basically, and the revenue it brings.
