I have an '08 truck with this motor.... And have heard horror stories that they have turbo problems and blow up. Mine runs fine but it only has 50k miles... Anybody have info on this problem ???

i've heard the real trouble starts at about 51K miles, so better go get you a 2011 while you still can

I own an 08 F-350, 34k miles never a problem. Towed the 35' fifth wheel to Yellowstone last summer, hauled like a beast. Keep it properly serviced, change filters as recomended it should be fine.

I am being careful, but I feel like time bomb is going to go off one day and I'll see my truck with the whole cab hoisted over it one day as I cry to the service manager !!!

only way to rectify your situation is to get an allison tranny out a gm, and the cummins out of a dodge and put it in your ford.

Why worry its covered for 5 year / 100k

I hear your pain. My 09 is nearing 50,000 and just had a sensor go out. It was under warranty for another 1000 miles, but after that I'm SOL. I LOVE this truck, but I'm not sure I love it this much.

i really think mine was just a lemon, i havent heard of people having as bad of luck as i did, but i wont get another one. next diesel will definitely be a cummins.

In all honesty though...you really can't go wrong with any of the trucks out from the Big 3 right now. They all make some fine trucks.
To the OP, I've heard of a few problems with most of Ford's different diesel mills...they seem to have a shaky history when it comes to diesel engines, though I think they got a pretty good one with the most recent motor. That being said, none of them are perfect. If you maintain it well, it should be fine.

I never heard of the turbo issues but then again I haven't been hanging around the Powerstroke forums much anymore. If Im not mistaken the radiator issue has something to do with the plastic/composite end caps can crack and cause leaks.
The reason the 6.4 didn't last long is because it was pretty much a temporary fix between Ford and Navistar after the 6.0 disaster. The 6.4 was pretty much a bandaid until Ford could get their own in-house build engines developed and in trucks.
Sadly with all this emisions crap I doubt we ever see diesels that will live up to the durability and longevity of the 7.3 Powerstroke and 5.9 Cummins.

That and the fact they are cranking out 700+ tq from these motors from the factory now. If it doesn't hurt the longevity of the engine, it will be sure to kill a few transmissions.

Cummins transmissions are not very reliable

???
The 6-spd manual is pretty highly regarded. And the the RE/RFE automatics actually aren't that bad. They just get a bad rap bc they are a Dodge product and people associate Dodge with the crap transmissions of the mid to late 90s.
