As a senior he should be more mature than that. If he's not, frick him.
did you not watch him last year when he was pulled and lee was given playing time?
pouting, whining, frowny face...

I remember. I also remember being afraid of Lee coming in.

I think a lot of fans were. Lee did fine though. I think his confidence starting waning as the season progressed and he figured out that no matter how well he played, or how bad JJ played, Lee wouldn't be the starter.

I'm not convinced that JJ will be head and shoulders improved from last year (though I DO think Krags will make a difference).
I'm also not convinced that Mett is so far ahead of JJ at this point in time that starting him against Oregon would be in the team's best interest. We've seen in vivid detail what starting someone before they're ready can do to a QB. I have more faith in Krags to develop QB talent than I did in GC, but I can understand what might be CLM's unwillingness to throw young talent in at QB until they've had a little more time in the system.
That said, I'm also unconvinced that CLM will treat this season the same as last season...meaning that if JJ stinks up the place he'll be content to let other QBs sit the bench. Last year his other option was JLee, who played admirably at times...and at others not so much. CLM has more options this year AND someone who is supposed to be more competent in QB development. That makes me think CLM might be a little quicker to pull the trigger on playing Mett than he was on playing JLee last year.
I know, I'm not convinced about anything. I'll wait for the season to play out before I make any judgements about JJ...and Mett...and what CLM will do in terms of PT.
Thanks, OP, for the rundown of CLM's remarks...I love the two quotes about Freak and PP7.

Great post. My favorite of the week.

I'll be happy with just moderately improved. What you would epect from a full offseason, and a better OC for a QB to learn under.
We forget, JJ had a good ending to the season. The losses to ARK and AU were completely on the shoulders of the defense.
As with our 2 BCS Champ seasons, we don't need a superstar, we just need someone who can make the throws they are supposed to make, maybe scramble for a few first downs, and be a team leader. And have the support of the team.

when JJ has 25 yards passing in the third quarter against some team and is 3-10 with 2 INT's, while mett is on the bench... let's rehash this topic again.
And wouldnt than just make you a happy negatiger? You're just dying for the most important player on the team to struggle, just so you can throw an "I told you so" to a stranger on a message board. Do you realize how sad that sounds?
And quite honestly, if he does have those stats at one point in the season, and we win a BCS NCG, I'm all for it.
And since when does an 'open competition' mean you can't bring experience, knowledge of the system and team comraderie (sp?) to the table?
Based on that, Jeff George would have been a top 5 all time NFL QB. There are many more factors than arm strength that earns you the QB role.

he figured out that no matter how well he played, or how bad JJ played, Lee wouldn't be the starter.
And the reason will be that he has 2 better players ahead of him. . .not because Miles is hiding better players.

The only way it wouldn't have been an open competition would have been if Mett hadn't been allowed to practice or play in the Spring scrimmage.
Since he did both, it was an open competition.
The problem for some is not that it wasn't an open competition, the problem is that they are not happy with the ranking that unfolded after the spring competition.

You ain't so great at comprehending yourself there buddy.

I said, pure speculation. Did you not read that? Speculation based on the fact that he is in the doghouse with Miles, and others claiming its grades. I even put 'IF' in all caps. Jeez.
"Yup, I guess I missed that part."
I simply replied as if you weren't speculating. Same as you did bro.

LINK - Time to get over the fact that Miles is totally invested in JJ @ qb. The comment (or lack of) about LB'ers is what concerns me:
[quote]Linebackers/Runningbacks- Nothing much here, just said we have three fast and capable linebackers. Also had some generic coach-speak praise for Michael Ford when asked about him.[quote]
Minter was supposed to be the guy then Randle, but no one seems to be stepping up to fill the Highsmith/Riley/Sheppard shoes?

Advantage should always go to the more experienced, right?
While I'm sure there is no universal answer to this I have seen the opposite. The younger guys at work, especially with more talent, are more eager to learn new things and not as set in their ways. This doesn't relate to affirmative action though which is more about less talented individuals getting jobs because they didn't get a fair shot at education, internships, mentoring, etc.

I used to be a big fan of Peyton Manning. My current dislike for him does not add to my credibility to anyone else, nor should it.
The case that he used to love him, and now hates him, suggests that he is a reactionary. . .not objective.

Do you work for a big time SEC football program? If not, then you're comparing apples to oranges.
