If the offical calls the false start on the two USC linemen, then LSU beats USC 12-10 (it would have been 4th down with less than 3 minutes left); and history may have changed.
IMO LSU would have had the impetus amd momentum to win at least 9 that year. Maybe we win a couple out of FSU, Bama, Georgia, and Tulane (all close losses), and we possibly could have gone to a NYD Bowl or a different bowl.
This would have probably changed the recruiting schedule for new coach Bo Rein. Maybe he is not even in Shreveport on that fateful Jan. 10, 1980 night; maybe his schedule would have been pushed back a day or two.
Or maybe he finishes up his recruting earlier on Jan. 10 and the brand new Cessna takes off BEFORE the thunderstorm causes pilot Louis Benscotter to divert the path.
If Rein lived, he would be nearing retirment age this year (he was 34). Not to say he would have stayed at LSU all these years, but you never know.
What would have become of Stovall, Arnsparger, Brodhead, Archer, Hallman, Dinardo, Saban, Miles......Drew Brees?

Mind boggling isn't it? All because an official refused to penalize mighty USC for having 2 linemen clearly move before the snap....
