If you have a PS3, then you can basically run Netflix through the PS3 and watch the movies/shows on that TV. The DVD is an extra $2 per month, but that is a where a lot of the mainstream and highly rated are exclusively located. First month is free.
Not sure about internet speed, but I would presume the faster the internet, the better it is.
