I just don't think it ever recaptured the magic of the first few brilliant episodes.

I also thought it was fair to all points of view, as with anything Sorkin does. He has surrogates for his beliefs, sure, but he always writes strong dissenting characters to keep them in check. One of the problems with the show was that Sorkin is not a sketch writer, and the show-within-show material was pretty banal. He also seemed to run out of ideas around mid-season and started trying to make it into a "Love in the show business" soap opera.

The skits were painfully bad and should never have even been included. Even the worst SNL skit was better than that trash.

I disagree about being even handed. I think he lost that for Studio 60 whereas on West Wing, Hatley was about the only Evil Republican.

I think he portrayed conservatives as idiots more on Studio 60 in half a season than 7 years of West Wing, yes I know he wasn't on the last several years.
