I will just shut up and read all your posts. I love seeing the different views and reactions coming out. I like how some of you are braking it all down and maybe for some it is different for each person.

And maybe someone could explain the Tulane thing too. I mean, you don't even play them every year. I just had assumed it was Arky because that is who you play at the end of the season and in my Conference you play your rival at the end of the season(usually). Anyways, I will stop asking questions for a while and just sit back and read your posts... I just am trying to figure this out.

We played our first intercollegiate game against them in baseball, and our first football game against them in 1893.

The LSU-Tulane rivalry from the 20's through the 40's was huge ... HUGE. It just belongs to a bygone era, back when people in New Orleans were still pissed off that Huey Long was actually governor.

The pure level of intense hatred kept the rivalry going well into the late 70's, and maybe even the early 80's, but Tulane's self-inflicted demise as a serious athletic program ended the bitterness and replaced it with apathy.

The fact that nobody in this thread can agree speaks to the lack of a real "rival" for LSU.

When our grandparents went to LSU, our rival was undoubtedly Ole Miss. That was back before the Moon landing, when Ole Miss was actually competitive. But they fell off the cliff talent wise, and haven't been relevant since JFK was President. They haven't even won a National Championship (don't pay attention to the banners they hang up).

LSU fans have moved on to hating a rotating cast of characters that include Alabama, Florida, and Auburn. Alabama probably incites the most passionate hatred, but its all directed at Nick Saban...not necessarily the institution. UF/LSU is developing into something that COULD be special, but it might take a couple decades to be considered a rivalry.

Personally, the only school that I currently hate everything about is Ole Miss. They are the most pretentious people on the face of our planet. They legitimately think that having crystal and fine china during a "tailgate" compensates for a shite team, a shite program, and a shite university. But like I said, most years their team shouldn't even be on the same field as LSU. Hard to maintain a rival when you kick a school's teeth in for 3 decades.

Florida is a close second. They have the most unintelligent, bandwagon fan base. For years, Tim Tebow was the only player many of them could name from the team. If you show up to a game in Gainesville for a evening game, you can roll up at 12 noon on GAMEDAY and find a legit spot to tailgate...if you show up at noon in Baton Rouge, Tuscaloosa or Auburn on a FRIDAY before a Saturday game, you'll be relegated to the fringes of campus.

Arkansas is developing into something, but until they win anything...its just hard to care. They serve more as a spoiler than a rival. They seriously haven't won a single BCS Championship, SEC Championship, or even a BCS bowl game. Personally, I'd rather kick their arse back to the SWC.
