it might hurt marino, but he is still considered one of the best ever. i have a hard time finding his counterpart in basketball... ewing maybe? but marino was a better qb than ewing was a baller.

jim kelly is another. though i think you could compare him to say, barkley, pretty easily.

Karl Malone and Barkley come to mind as basketball players who are remembered for not winning championships.

when i hear people atlk about the "greatest" ever in baseball, weather overall, pitcher, hitter, etc, no one ever mentions lack of titles for guys like Ted Williams, Ty Cobb, etc

If Lebron never wins a championship, he'll still be considered one of the best ever, but it will be a HUGE black mark (just like Marino).

But it's weird in baseball. Nobody even thinks about Ted Williams or Bonds not winning one when judging their status. Perhaps an even better example, I was looking up some players I thought didn't win one to make sure they didn't win one before posting them and making myself look stupid (Ripken and Aaron)... didn't even realize those guys won championships.
