Deer might be related to fish. That's how natural they are in water. They'll be fine.
Armadillos in the spillway will be wiped out, along with a lot of rabbits. But rabbits can repopulate quickly.
The deer will move right back in when they feel it's time to.

sure, a small number of animals will die but its not really that sad to me as most animals will be fine as they are equipped to deal with this sort of shite
