I've heard Davis pond is closed because they just got the salinity where they want it.

I haven't been to Caernarvon since the river has flexed so I can't answer that one. I couldn't imagine why it wouldn't be?

Violet diversion is chump change

Update:

Caernarvon is running very low right now less than 1000cfs. The operation of Caernarvon is based on the slainity levels at the Bay Gardene Station. I am not sure what it has to be maybe 12ppt or perhaps 15ppt. Either way, when the river is this high, the natural flowage from the river coming out of the passes, locks and natural breaks lowers the salinity level naturally. I believe it is around 3 ppt. In addition, we would not allow them to run the diversion at this time, because the alligators are beginning the nesting process. Had they been able to run the diversion, we would have asked them to cut it back as of yesterday. Below is the link for the Caernarvon gauge.

That whole salinity bullshite pisses me off. Had it not been for the corps putting up levees those areas would be fresh anyway. Most of the oyster beds they are worried about are there because of salt water intrusion.

I've been thinking the same thing every time the oyster people bitch about these diversions.

True. Is there a bitchier group than the oystermen?

I don't think so. By our camp the oyster bed can't be harvested along the banks due to the proximity to camp sewage treatment run off but you try and drive a piling for a wharf and the bastard that owns the oyster lease wants $500 a piling

And he gets it....
