(I think it was a woman) on the WAFB feed that was jumping up and down and waving at the chopper. She even forced the guy next to her to turn and wave at it. I swear it looked like she was laughing. This isn't a party, for God's sake! Some people are going to suffer from this water!

She certainly painted an image for the country to see, didn't she? Freakin' fool.

It's not every day tattooed women from Melville get to be on the news.

I met her last week while in Melville. I think you pretty much nailed it in the title. Well, really she was just a lonely gal looking for some attention. No obscene responses, please.

Looked like it. I just know she was wearing tan shirt and pants. She should be disciplined by her employer if she was in uniform, imo.

And Melville surely will.

Why is that - I thought Melville is outside the Atchafalya levee, so it should be okay?

The water backs around once it fills the basin. That is why Melville has a ring levee. The Atchafalaya levees end (at Butte la Rose, I think, on that side), and when the water piles up, it flows north toward Melville.

Yeah, but won't it take several days of Morganza being open before this happens? I know farmers between Krotz Springs and Melville have told me it will be quite a while before any water gets to them? They're not sure they will go under just yet either.

Oh, yeah. It will be more than three days at the presently planned levels of flow, if it gets there. They were supposed to get five feet if the Morganza was opened at 50%, and it would have taken days to get there. With the Morganza open at 25% at the most (and not even that high yet), they may escape unscathed. But they are clearly in the threat zone.

An old timer told me they built the ring levee because the Atchafalaya levee blew out at Bayou Current years ago, flooding the town completely. I drove up to Bayou Current, and you can still see the scour mark where it happened if you look closely.

I think the break at Bayou Current was in the 27 Flood.
