I didn't mean cerebral in the sense that The Wire is a more intelligent or precise account of anything in particular. Just that its insights deal with the complexity of societal structures and institutions - people fulfilling professional roles, whereas I think Six Feet Under is a much more visceral exploration of the intricacies of personal relationships and fulfilling our most basic roles as humans and family members. I guess I intended "cerebral" as sort of a pejorative, meaning that The Wire was cold and stark and didn't emotionally engage me even though I thought its stories were fascinating.

That was such a cruel episode... it comes out of nowhere and drags you behind it for 50 minutes. The guy who played the carjacker should have been a kill-of-the-week on Dexter. Such a creepy portrayal of a violent, insane psychopath.
