Last time they opened the spillway believe it or not it really didn't hurt the causeway bite. We still caught fish out there even with river water on top.
I can't see how they won't open it this year, the flooding in the MS delta is predicted to be worse than it has been in over 75 years. Before we leveed everything in the river getting into the lake was a natural thing will be the same this year.
