The really interesting one to watch is Morganza. If flooding upriver gets as bad as it is forecast to they might look to open it once again. Combine that with the scare at Old River in 1973 and it's going to be worth watching what the Corps does. River levels in Greenville, MS and other areas nearby are already forecasted to be over 1973 levels not including the rains forecast this weekend and next week upriver.

It'll be interesting to see what they do. The river, at the BR Stage, is at 31.7' now. Flood Stage is 35' and it is projected to get to 43' and crest on 05/21.

I don't think they ever opened Morganza except for that one time in 1973 with the erosion problem.

If they do open it, I'd love to be there to witness.

My grandpa tells stories about when they opened it in 1973, and it sounds scary. He says that the locks would not close and they had to hammer them home. I also know that there have been cases in the past where that levee almost broke. There is a story that a citizen was passing by one night on the spillway and saw water shooting out the other side. He then saw a dozor near by and moved enough dirt to stop it from collapsing. You do not want them to open the spillway, I don't know that they can open it.
