Question for people that use gas grills

How do you keep flames from popping up on the hood that covers the burners?
Ive been using this grill for over 3 years but recently Ive been having problems keeping the flames under control. Its not because its dirty because I cleaned the inside, burner hood, and the grills about a month ago and it still did it the very next time I cooked. I brush the grill before and after each time I cook and scrape the hood about every 3 or 4 times.
Ive been resorting to just splashing a little water on the fire but I hate to open the grill when Im cooking every few minutes to do this.
Any tips?
eta: i do spray a little pam on the grill sometimes depending on what i am cooking

What are you cooking when it does this? I cook on gas and it only happens when I cook bacon wrapped chicken or something that lets go alot of grease.

I have a weber gas grill, and it can definitely flare up cooking ribeyes. It is a super fatty cut of meat.
I cook mine with the lid open which helps cut down on the flare ups. Also try searing them on a high flame then turning the flame down to medium after you get your browning on both sides.
Other than that if you get flame-ups in one part of the grill just move your steak to another part.

It's the amount of fat that's in the meat, it drips and flares up. Some people like this cause it chars the meat. I would keep a water bottle close to tame some of the flames.
