Tell me why we're going to be better next year.......

Really starting to looking grim next year as well, we get some pitchers back, but as far as in the field we lose Mahtook and potentially Nola. Who is going to fill their shoes, and who are we getting that will be upgrades at other positions?

Quit worrying. No one thought we would be good in 2008 either and we won the sec tournament and made it to the college world series. Then the following year we won the national title. The team can be improved in a hurry if just a few players step up and play well.

Our only two seniors are Alsup & Bradshaw, and Mainieri will find a way to recruit hitters to come to LSU this fall.
The current team has an outrageously high number of first-year players (especially including all players who never lettered), and our last recruiting class did a good job knocking out more than half of the program's emergency needs.
Now all we need are power hitters at the corner positions, which really, should be just about the easiest thing there is to find.

But in 2008 we didn't lose our main cogs from 07.....

I hope there are some JUCO guys who fit this description.......looking over our signing class the other day it didn't seem like we tried signing very many guys.

Pitching could be absolutely lights out next year, though we need some guys to step up in the field and at the plate.

And this year we wont lose some of our young cogs like jacoby jones and Kurt McCune. Plus there can be new incoming players that can step up next year. A baseball team can be improved in a hurry. Mainieri has done it before and can do it again.

the 2007 team sucked and then those same guys came back and were awesome the next year.

I hope so......it's pretty depressing come regional time and the Box is empty!

Well I try to stay away from that stuff, because I find posters who obsess over recruiting to be some creepy mofos. Still, I would think that a program like LSU could find a great hitting 1B and 2 or 3 outfielders to come join the team. That's really all we need ... besides better assistant coaches to actually teach the players to stop doing stupid shite ... but that's another story I don't even feel like talking about right now.

Yeah i sure hope he can pull it togethere again like in 08. I love it when we get to host regionals at the box.

I think we have Jamie Bruno a transfer from tulane to fill that position (though why are we taking tulanes leftovers?)

That may be asking a little much.

Mainieri has typically had bright spots in the form of fresh new talent on every team he's had since he's been at LSU...
2007 -- Dean, Ochinko, Schimpf, & Mitchell
2008 -- Clark (didn't return), LeMahieu, Gibbs, & Landry
2009 -- Mahtook, Nola, Ott, & Ch. Jones
2010 -- ???
2011 -- J. Jones, McCune, Gausman, & Rhymes
We just crapped out last year on getting new starts who would help build the program in future years, and now we're paying for it.

I agree with this. That class really fricked LSU over.
We have some big question marks next year and unless we get some help somewhere, we're going to be a mediocre hitting team next year too. I expect us to improve since these guys are young, the question is how much?
Other question marks will be OF and middle relief pitching. We're going to have a lot of holes to fill next year...Mahtook is going to be a HUGE loss.
Like someone said above, I'm hoping we get some JUCO guys that can fill some immediate needs. I'm hoping Eades will come around pitching too. Or hitting.

Sort of like the baseball program's version of the football program's O-line recruits from the signing classes of 2006 & 2007.

in 2010 LSU brought in some JUCO guys to help bridge the gap but they haven't worked out well so far.
Watkins showed potential last year and people were excited to see Koeneman.
Rittiner and Bourgeois came in and showed that they were pretty good pitchers and it is unfortunate to have them out because they were going to play a big role this year. Katz and Cotton have come in and done well too.

Yeah, I'm not big on JuCo recruits. I'm not against them either, especially if you have a whole lot of slots to fill. But their number should be minimized.
Most of your starts are going to come from guys you got out of high school, although there are exceptions to the rule, like Wes Grisham & Craig Cala, Andy Sheets (Tulane transfer), Matt Clark, Raph Rhymes, etc.

I sure hope you weren't banking on Bourgeois making a big impact this year. What did you see last year to give you much optimism?
