I think your second point is more correct than your first one.
Dallas has pawn shops that are full of nice things and have very nice people working at them.

I have bought several things from some of them.
I had one manager that would call me and let me know when he had good electronics.

When I was younger I used to pawn things and get them back a week or two later. Was treated with respect if I paid them on time.

I have never seen a line like they always show people waiting in at a pawn shop.

The dad on Hardcore and Pawn Stars are both bigger assholes than the owners I have encountered. The Hardcore guy looks like an Al Davis starter kit.
