I just looked on IMDB, it looks like DDL's next movie isn't coming out until 2013. It's called Silence.

idk. this movie got such high reviews on here, but i would only give the movie itself a ranking of a little bit better than good. At the same time, i thought ddl did about 9 to 9.25.

Meh. I was going to let another thread of overpraising TWBB go, but "objectively" one of the best movies? No.

Objectively, its Daniel Day Lewis' worst performance, as it is the only time in his career he has repeated himself. His greatest skill is his dynamic ability to play anyone. A skill wasted in TWBB, as he just plays Bill the Butcher again.

I have a lot of issues with TWBB, but I'll shut up now and let the love in continue.

I'm not one for platitudes, I was remarking with a sense of irony. but, in my humble, I do think it is really, really good.

how does repetition of character traits by different screenwriters + directors make his performance bad? that seems like a picky preferential thing rather than a legit evaluation

Are you saying DDL has no impact on how his role is played? It's down to similar mannerisms, which certainly weren't in the script. It was the only time I've walked out of DDL film not being surprised by what he could do.
