to be fair +/- is a subjective statistic. In theory, bill russell can shite down wilt, but if jerry west is lighting up from the outside, russell can have a negative score. That does indicate how well Russell is playing. It is subjective to the talent around you.

To me, Thornton is what he is...a pure scorer on a shitty team.
He'll always be a good option on shite teams, because they won't ask him to play defense, pass the ball, or not turn the ball over. Yes, he's always going to be able to fill it up, but he'll never be a "star". Ever. He's Ben Gordon at best.

Thornton's rate at turnovers is among the lowest in the league, in large part because he doesn't pass the ball much.
Hollinger

Thornton is the most controlled reckless player I've ever seen. He's constantly looking to attack, but he never loses the handle. And I mean never. Thornton had miscues on only 6.1 percent of the possessions he used, the lowest rate among shooting guards and nearly the lowest in the entire league. Usually players with low turnover ratios are catch-and-shoot types. Thornton had the "shoot" part down, but he took 40 percent of his shots at the rim. Last season's ridiculously low turnover rate is probably something of a fluke, but even if Thornton's true rate is more like 8 or 9 percent of possessions, that's still very impressive for a shot-happy rookie guard. Of course, one reason Thornton didn't turn the ball over was because he never passed it. Only three guards owned a lower assist ratio; if he's going to the basket this often, he should be getting a few assists just by sheer luck.

i think we can all agree that MT5 is a very good scorer... and most of us wish we still had him.
BUT
we had a gaping hole in the quality big man department that Carl Landry is filling quite nicely.
Also, if CP3 wants to leave, no big deal.
if we can get a deal like Utah got for Deron Williams, I say we trade him ASAP.

Cause that looks so good for Utah?

did you see what Utah got for him??
i'd take that deal in a heartbeat for CP3

You would trade Chris Paul, a once in a lifetime PG, for Harris, Favors and two first round picks? Hello 11th seed in the west and dropping.
Posted on 3/31/11 at 3:07 pm to Jon1798
yes, i would.
Harris is an above average NBA PG.
Favors will be an allstar soon... maybe even an elite player.
Plus two first round draft picks and cash...
all for a PG who has already stated that he wants to leave. I'd take that deal in a heartbeat.
we'll lose him regardless when his contract is up. That deal would be ridiculous to turn down.
I doubt Utah was looking to trade D. Williams (after just getting rid of their long-tenured coach because he had issues with the Deron Williams), but the Nets threw the bank at Utah.
and for the record, i'm a HUGE CP3 fan...
but even more of a Hornets fan.

Favors is still a question mark.Other than an NBA body,as they say, what is his elite skill?
Posted on 3/31/11 at 3:19 pm to RonBurgundy
okay okay, "elite" was a bit of a reach (as of right now), but the dude is gonna big a major contributor / all-star. He's the future of that Utah team.
he's putting up solid numbers for a rookie and backing up Al Jefferson. He's young... i'm telling you, he'll be a stud.

for what its worth i have never read an article or seen video of CP saying he wants to leave. not saying it isnt the case, but to be fair i dont think that anyone on this board really knows whats been said or is going to happen.
the only video i HAVE seen is CP stating that he never did say he wanted to leave/be traded.
so maybe we should all cool it on the "player who has already said he wants to leave" thing for a bit.
oh and the OP is a moron.

He's the #3 pick and he's averaging 6/5 in 20 minutes. I wasn't sold on Favors in the draft because looking for clips of him usually lead you to GaTech clips where his teammates were the stars. He has ridiculous hops but that's about the only thing I've seen that stands out about him.
I will say that one of the players he's been most often compared to, Shawn Kemp, had a similarly unproductive rookie year and then averaged 15/8 in his 2nd year, but I still haven't seen IT from Favors yet.

you guys are losing sight of my point...
would you not take that deal the Jazz got from the Nets?
CP3
for
Harris, Favors, 2 draft picks, cash
and as for Favors elite skill...
the dude is a 6'10" freak athlete who has tons of potential. That's something we've never had.
well, maybe Jerome Moiso...

one thing for sure is that Marcus Thorton is going to be a star that will not be denied.
Marcus Thornton is nothing more than an "instant offense" shooter that can light up the scoreboard on any given night but can also have flat games.
He has star potential, but he would have to round out the rest of his game to do that, and missing Monty's training is not a good sign of discipline. But he has plenty of time to refine his skills and he COULD be a star one day.
You never really know.
How could you NOT like the landry trade? Without the landry trade, when West goes down, so goes our season. The landry trade could very well be the only reason we make the playoffs now.

so in other words he's an athlete, without a true skill set yet to be dominant. He lacks Millsap's motor basketball IQ and rebounding prowess and Jefferson's offensive game.
but.....I agree Utah did well with that trade.
Posted on 3/31/11 at 3:35 pm to RonBurgundy
okay, that's what i was getting at.
it was a great deal for Utah.
He's young and inexperienced... but has more potential than Jefferson and Milsap combined... and if the kid has any sense, he'll watch and learn while playing behind those guys.

Paul & West are brothers. They will play together.

yes.

What is the obsessions with trading with the damn Jazz for no account Harris and Favors?
If we did move CP3, I say send him to the Clippers for Eric Bledsoe, Aminu, DeAndre Jordan and some firsts for CP3 and someone else to make it work.
